About Garden Chapel

The Garden Chapel is a welcoming and hospitable body of believers. We are the only church in the borough of Victory Gardens and are dedicated to the spiritual needs of this neighborhood and the surrounding communities. We desire for our actions to match our words, in our prayers, witness, community outreach, and benevolence. The Garden Chapel is a place where people gather to share testimonies of God’s grace, faithfulness and ability to renew, heal and restore.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…{and} ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

- Mark 12:30-31

At Garden Chapel we put our faith in action through our various outreach projects that allow us to build relationships within our community and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of our outreach activities include:

  • Annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner
  • Community Day
  • MCC Relief Kits
  • Summer Recreation

These are just a few of the ways that we follow Jesus’ example. We desire greater service and believe that there is so much more to be done in our community. Please prayerfully consider joining us so that we can expand our ministry.

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
– John 15:12

We are a contemporary Mennonite group united through faith and fellowship.

Our congregation began 40 years ago when a Mennonite Voluntary Service team was led by God to plant a church in the only Morris County neighborhood without a house of worship. As a result, we are the borough of Victory Gardens’ community church where we minister prayerfully, joyfully and expectantly.

We are proud to be a multicultural and multigenerational body of believers; reflecting the diversity of our neighborhood-a representation of what heaven will be like! Regardless of age, race, gender or background, there is room for you at the Garden Chapel.

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

-Philippians 3:13-14

Pastor Timothy J. Hart was born in Dover, NJ and grew up in Roxbury and Randolph, NJ. He attended Garden Chapel since he was 11 years old, came to Christ when he turned 12 and was baptized at the Garden Chapel at 13 years of age. This path had seen many struggles, challenges and setbacks, all of which has now contributed to building and equipping Tim’s character for the greater mission God would open up later on in his life.

Pastor Tim’s position at the Christian Faith Center has also been blessed by the hands of God, as he moved on to become the Youth Director of the church, and ultimately, an fully-ordained minister. Since 2005, Pastor Tim has served as an associate pastor at Christian Faith Center. As well known by friends and family he was gifted with an abundance of energy and the ability to accomplish on a larger and wider scale. He has served in various ministries over his lifetime including Generation Holy, aimed toward firing up teens for God; Young Life, standing in the gap for underprivileged Newark youth; and PEPC (Parents Empowering Parents For Christ) in Newark, bringing spiritually-starved parents back to rich and loving guidance of the Bible.

Pastor Tim Hart With His Family

One year before becoming an ordained minister of the Christian Faith Center, The Lord blessed Pastor Tim with a wife, Maria Hart, and soon after, a daughter named Melody. They began as a family in Belleville, NJ and now live in Gillette, NJ. Maria is a NJ-certified elementary school teacher and graduated with a BS in Psychology at Ramapo College, Mahwah. She had begun serving as a teacher at Bethel Christian Academy. Here, she banded with 2 other teachers and founded PEPC (Parents Empowering Parents Through Christ), now an established non-profit company. Currently, Maria is focused on her responsibilities at home and in raising Melody. Aside from assisting Tim in his various roles, she has ventured off to a growing career as a professional freelance writer and continues to serve in the Children’s Ministry at Christian Faith Center.

Maria currently teaches at a classical Christian school, Trivium Academy. She also does freelance writing in her spare time and is building the WALL (Worship Arts Leadership) that aims to inspire youth in using their music and artistic gifts to represent God and His Truth.

Pastor Tim Hart is excited about the opportunity to give back to the Garden Chapel Church as their interim Pastor; never forgetting that the prayers and love that he received there as a young man is one of the reasons he is where is now in his life.
